Clap for the Wolfman

When I was a Monster Kid, I sought out anything and everything that had anything to do with the Universal Horror films. I’m not even sure I fully understood just how old those movies were. I think I thought the black and white presentation was more of a choice much like The Addams Family or The Munsters on TV. Like most kids, my misunderstandings were vast.

I’m not sure how I heard it, but I bought the 45 of the Guess Who single, Clap for the Wolfman. I loved that song and played it night and day on my little record player, much to the chagrin of my mother. Mind you, I had absolutely no idea who Wolfman Jack was or what the song was really about. As far as I was concerned, it was a song about how much the Lon Chaney Jr. Wolfman loved music and how much the singer (and the girl he was putting the moves on, I guess) loved him. When I listen to it today, I still like to think that’s what it’s about.
