The UK is Finally Getting Cool Halloween Merch

image © Thomas Raven

For years, the Halloween forums have been clogged with Brits who want their Halloween! It’s strange that the holiday actually originated in the UK only to be abandoned in England. There’s a huge goth subculture there and they’ve been at their wit’s end trying to buy Halloween decorations to celebrate the darkest of holiday seasons with us.

There’s a store in the UK called Poundland. Get it? It’s the Dollar Tree of England! Well, Poundland has been getting flack from some wanna-be psychics over their merchandising of £1 spirit boards (AKA Ouija boards but that name is owned by Hasbro). This idiot is claiming that having so many spirit boards in the hands of rank amateurs risks setting loose demons upon the Earth. Given what 2020 has given us so far, I’d welcome demons! Maybe I could start a bed and breakfast for them.

The story is all over the net now. It was written by Anna Riley of the Hull Daily Mail, a news site for Hull and East Yorkshire. Riley wrote the piece three days ago and it’s filling a need for Halloween news everywhere now. Unfortunately, it’s also promoting the business of the knucklehead who’s selling his “psychic” abilities at top dollar. You can read the full article here.

The real story here is that freaking Poundland has Halloween merch! Awesomeness, my Anglo brethren! You now have access to the same cheap makeup, masks, plastic chainsaws, and cool decorations that make the rounds here in the US, along with a few oddball British exclusives under the “Creepy Town” brand. I mean, I have no idea what Pass the Pumpkin is, but it sounds…interesting. :)
